Professor Dali Kaafar and his team also launched the Apate AI tool, named after the Greek goddess of deception.<\/p>\n

Apate is designed to do more than just waste scammers\u2019 time; the AI system also tries to understand the scam techniques used by scammers to help warn people not to fall for them and provide intelligence to law enforcement.<\/p>\n

If a telecom company detects a scammer and refers him to a system like Apate, the bots keep the scammers busy. They test different tactics to see which ones work to keep the scammers on the line longer, and through successes and failures, Apate fine-tunes its own response strategies.<\/p>\n

In the process, Apate extracts intelligence and uncovers new scams, gathering information about how long calls last, when scammers are most likely to call, what information they want, and what tactics they use.<\/p>\n
