According to the FT.Microsoft<\/a> AI<\/a> Department head Mustafa Suleiman is putting together a new consumer health team that includes a number of the core people he worked with during his time at Google DeepMind. It's a sign that health is becoming a major playing field as tech giants scramble to explore the commercial potential of AI.<\/p>\n

Mustafa Suleiman has this time poached Dominic King, former head of DeepMind's health division and a surgically trained surgeon in the UK, to appoint him as vice president of Microsoft's health team in London. He has also attracted several other experts who have worked on the DeepMind Health team, including Christopher Kelly, a clinical research scientist and doctor at Evelina Children's Hospital in London.<\/p>\n

Health issues have always been a hot topic for the public. This isn't Mustafa Suleiman's first foray into health tech. Back in 2016, he set up a health division at DeepMind, which partnered with the NHS in the UK to develop medical data processing technology for 1.6 million patients. However, the division was later spun off by parent company Alphabet due to privacy concerns.<\/p>\n

Mustafa Suleiman's career has been just as varied in recent years, with a brief stint in venture capital and the founding of AI startup Inflection.
