On January 18, local time, Altman participated in a sub-forum of the 2024 Winter Davos Economic Forum, with the theme of "The Role of Technology in a Turbulent World". Altman said at the forum that AI's capabilities "have many limitations" and people should regard it as a tool that is "very helpful in some areas" rather than relying too much on it.<\/p>\n

In this speech, Altman maintained his attitude towards AI at the Davos Forum: he was optimistic about the future of AI, but also constantly reminded people not to exaggerate this technology so as not to cause panic.<\/p>\n

Altman said he believes AI cannot replace humans because humans are "naturally more interested in other humans." For example, when computers began to beat chess masters in the 1990s, people thought that chess would be affected; but in fact, chess has remained prosperous because few people really want to watch two AIs play against each other.<\/p>\n

Altman emphasized that the technological changes brought about by AI are different from the past, but AI has not eliminated many jobs as people worry, but has become a "magic tool to increase productivity": "I think the future (brought by AI) is very exciting. We can only see part of it, and we don\u2019t know what will happen next... Of course, some jobs will be affected or disappear, but the driving force of human beings is still strong."<\/p>\n

Altman gave an example, saying that he had heard a lot about programmers being replaced by AI, but this was not the case because "the world needs more code than we could write before."<\/p>\n

Altman also admitted that it will take time for people to adapt to AI, from AI technology itself to government regulatory policies.
