Like other competitors in the market, users train Artisse's AI model by uploading their own photos, and then use text or image prompts to generate new photos in a variety of different scenes, poses, and styles.

Unlike its competitors, Artisse is committed to making the photos it generates more realistic, so that they can replace professional photography. The app has become a popular app on the Google Play Store many times, covering markets including the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Canada and Australia.

William Wu, founder of Artisse, said the app's flexibility allows users to do some inappropriate things, such as changing their race. However, he made it clear that such usage is not encouraged and is not a common practice among users. Instead, Artisse users tend to use the app to post photos on social media, especially those that they can't capture otherwise, such as posing with luxury cars or fashion styles.

Artisse initially achieved profitability by offering 25 free photos and then charging about 20 cents per photo. The company then switched to a subscription model with three tiers, priced at $7, $15 and $40 per month, for 25 to 370 photos.

Artisse achieved $1 million in annual revenue in December 2023 and plans to reach $2.5 million this year, according to Wu, who sees AI photography as a new category that could be as large as or larger than photo editing apps.

The London Fund, which raised the money, said it chose to invest in Artisse because it has an influencer marketing arm that could help drive marketing for the app. The round is still open to other investors.

In the future, Artisse’s team plans to apply its AI technology to other areas beyond consumer photos, including virtual fitting room technology for online shopping and a group photo feature where users can take photos with friends or idols (with permission). At the same time, they are also exploring the idea of shopping through AI photos and turning them into physical prints.

Artisse’s AI app is currently available on both iOS and Android.

Recently, AI photography app Artisse announced a successful $6.7 million funding round, with the company focusing on improving the realism of its AI-generated photos.
