This comes at a time when OpenAI is preparing to release an open-source AI model for large languages, which could create an even bigger divide between the two companies.<\/p>\n<p>Note: OpenAI is a prime example of a closed-source AI model, and has never before made the model's weights (a type of training parameter) public.<\/p>\n<p>And the latest news is that\u00a0<strong>OpenAI is expected to launch an open source weighting model as early as next week, similar to the o3 mini, with all the inference capabilities of OpenAI's latest model.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over the past few months, OpenAI has invited developers and researchers to test the model and openly solicited feedback from the AI community, the sources said.<\/p>\n<p>If this open source model does get off the ground, it will be OpenAI's first open source language model since the release of GPT-2 in 2019, and since its exclusive cloud service provider agreement with Microsoft in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement, Microsoft gains access to most of the OpenAI models and the exclusive right to sell them directly to organizations through the Azure OpenAI service.
