Unlike in the past, when the main impact was on manual labor, AI will have a far greater impact on society than any other industrial revolution.<strong>This time the onslaught is aimed at the broadly educated white-collar class, and the middle class in particular will bear the brunt.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gawdat also predicted that the resulting social problems would include deteriorating mental health, increased loneliness, and social fragmentation. He called for immediate policy interventions, including Universal Basic Income (UBI) and strong regulation, to prevent the concentration of power and monopolization of wealth by AI while maintaining social stability.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, he retains hope for the future of humanity beyond 2040.<strong>The idea is that AI can free people from repetitive labor and allow humans to focus more on love, community and spiritual exploration, ushering in a more meaningful 'utopian' society.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He emphasized that the key to this turning point is how society chooses to respond to the rise of AI in the present, such as how to introduce 'ethical programming' to ensure that AI can be governed humanely.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, former Google X commercial director Mo Gawdat issued a stark warning on the podcast The Diary of a CEO that AI will lead to a 15-year period of \"hell\" that will plunge the global economy and society into a state of deep turmoil from 2027 onwards.
