More details of the standard have now been revealed, stipulating that all AI PCs running Windows OS must have the ability to run Copilot locally as well as carry a neural network processing unit (NPU) with 40 TOPS of performance.<\/p>\n<p data-vmark=\"d448\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6588\" title=\"6ce80398-f6f6-4258-9146-b885225a2ddd\" src=\"https:\/\/www.1ai.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/6ce80398-f6f6-4258-9146-b885225a2ddd.jpg\" alt=\"6ce80398-f6f6-4258-9146-b885225a2ddd\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1125\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-vmark=\"d3be\">According to Tom's Hardware, Microsoft is working to establish the AI PC standard\u3002<span class=\"accentTextColor\">First, the AI PC needs to be able to run Copilot on local hardware.<\/span>. It is understood that when users use Copilot at present, questions are first sent to the server, which processes them and then returns the results. The AI PC of the future will have hardware dedicated to running AI programs so that Copilot's calculations can be done directly locally. With the next generation of processors, we'll be able to run more programs locally, such as some of Copilot's features,\" said Todd Lewellen, vice president of Intel's Client Computing Division. This doesn't mean that all Copilot features will be localized, but many of the core features will utilize the NPU for computing.\"<\/p>\n<p data-vmark=\"f4a0\">Secondly,<span class=\"accentTextColor\">AI PCs need NPUs with 40 TOPS of performance<\/span>NPUs, or Neural Processing Units, are chips dedicated to processing artificial intelligence programs, and TOPS is a unit of measurement for NPU performance, representing the number of trillion operations per second that can be performed, with higher values representing higher performance. Although TOPS is not a complete measure of an NPU's performance (power consumption is equally important), it provides a basic performance reference standard.<\/p>\n<p data-vmark=\"b1c3\">The reason behind Microsoft setting these standards is closely related to its upcoming AI-powered Windows operating system, and only users with the right hardware will be able to utilize the full power of the new OS.
