On 9 August, the Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge Browser raised the empty disk space requirement for downloading local AI models to 20GB, and the browser will be able to download the relevant model running device end AI functionality silently in the backstage, and the relevant AI calculations will not need to be fully uploaded to remote servers. Before, Chrome was exposed in May to automatic downloads of about 4GB AI models. The current adjustment of 20GB is the pre-space threshold required for download, and the actual model occupancy may be below that value. Edge sets an additional GPU display threshold of at least 5.5 GB, and when the equipment can be stored below 10 GB, the model will be automatically deleted to ensure that other functions of the browser are functional, and both browsers provide manual closure options for the device-end AI function。
