June 17, 2011 (Newswire.com)Smart glassesfield, another major collaboration is on the horizon. Famous Eyewear Brands Oakley With tech giants Meta has officially entered into a partnership to develop smart glasses products. The results of this collaboration are expected to be officially announced on June 20, 2025.

Meta partners with Oakley, expects to announce new smart glasses on June 20

1AI notes that the partnership is not without warning. Back in January, it was announced that Meta was developing a version of its smart glasses based on the Oakley brand. Ray-Ban smart glasses have long been one of Meta's most popular smart devices, and as a brand also owned by EssilorLuxotica, it seemed like a logical move for Oakley to join the competition in the smart glasses market.

Surprisingly, though, Meta did not choose to announce the results of this collaboration at the Meta Connect conference in September. According to Oakley's official website, "The next evolution is coming, right here on June 20." According to leaks, Oakley's smart glasses will likely be based on its Sphaera line of designs, with similar features to the current Ray-Ban smart glasses, such as a camera but no display, although the camera will be repositioned to the center of the frame and some additional features for cyclists and athletes will be added.

While Meta has yet to explicitly say that what's coming is Oakley-branded smart glasses, the combination of previous leaks and Oakley's status as an eyewear brand makes it almost certain that this is the upcoming release.

The timing of this partnership may not be a coincidence. Google just recently launched its Android XR operating system and announced that it has partnered with five brands, including Samsung, Xreal and Gentle Monster, to develop Android XR eyewear. In contrast, Meta has had relatively few partners in the smart glasses space.

Although Meta has already dominated the smart glasses market, with its products not only already on the market, but also occupying a large market share. But in the face of Google's challenge, Meta has chosen to accelerate the launch of its Oakley-partnered smartglasses, apparently to get a head start. It is expected that the first batch of Android XR glasses will not be released until 2026, and Meta's early layout may make the Android XR in the market promotion face more pressure.

Additionally, the early release of the Oakley smartglasses leaves room for Meta's other smartglasses projects. Meta is rumored to be working on a smartglasses with a display that would allow users to view apps and notifications, much like what Google has announced for its AR glasses. While Google was the first to show off its next-generation consumer AR glasses, Meta is expected to be the first mainstream company to actually launch such a product, with an official launch expected at the Meta Connect conference in 2025.
