Hugging Face CEO says AI “end-of-life risk” is close to zero

At the WIRED World Expo, held in Miami, United States, Executive Director Clement Delange, Executive Director of Open-source AI Platform Hughes Face, stated that he assessed the probability of artificial intelligence leading to human extinction (i.e. P (Doom)) as “near zero”. In his view, the more real risk than the great concern of “AI Destroying the World” was the clandestine development of frontier models by a small number of large companies in closed environments. According to Drago, the main risk for AI is not from open ecology, but from “a small number of participants in closed car construction”. He argued that the key to risk reduction was to enable more developers to publicly construct, review and improve models, thus creating mutually balanced ecosystems. In his view, the open weight model was not only a technological choice but also a means of preventing a few enterprises from monopolizing talent, numeracy and AI capabilities。
