According to Thelec.SamsungLee Jae-yong, vice chairman of Electronics,OpenAI CEO Sam Altman andSoftBankCEO Masayoshi Son held a three-way meeting in Seoul, South Korea, on Tuesday, aimed at exploring potential collaboration opportunities in the field of artificial intelligence.

According to sources, Altman had planned to meet with top executives of Samsung's chip division, but decided to participate in the meeting in person due to Lee Jae-yong's acquittal verdict in an appeals court on Monday. Masayoshi Son also decided to join the meeting after learning that Lee Jae-yong would be meeting directly with Altman.
Prior to the meeting, Masayoshi Son told the Korean media that they plan to discuss cooperation with Samsung on the Stargate project. The project is organized by OpenAI and SoftBank are leading a $500 billion (note: currently around Rs 3.64 trillion) AI infrastructure project in the U.S., which was announced by President Donald Trump last month. SoftBank is one of the main backers of the project and has discussed investing $15 billion to $20 billion directly into OpenAI.
In 2022, Masayoshi Son met with Lee Jae-yong in Seoul to discuss SoftBank's sale of British chip company Arm. In addition, on Monday, OpenAI announced a joint venture with SoftBank in Japan called Crystal Intelligence, which will provide enterprise-level artificial intelligence services. Samsung is expected to become a potential chip supplier for the joint venture.
Meanwhile, Altman also met with executives from other South Korean conglomerates, including Kakao CEO Chung Shin-a and SK Group Chairman Chey-Tae-won.
