The Enlightenment mentions that in order to better utilize generative artificial intelligence to promote historiography, enrich the techniques and methods of historical research, promote the integration and development of artificial intelligence and historiography, actively respond to the social risks and scientific and technological ethical challenges that generative artificial intelligence may bring to historiography, and build a new order of scientific research in the era of human-computer synergy, the Society makes the following enouncement:
- 1.Our journals do not accept generative AI tools to participate in the submission of signed manuscripts.
- 2. The application of generative AI tools in the submission of manuscripts is limited to language embellishment, literature search, data organization and analysis, idea development, and other ancillary research aspects.
- 3. Submissions must produce a written description of the circumstances related to the use of generative AI tools and sign an author's commitment, including but not limited to: (i) the name, developer, version and other information of the generative AI tool used. (ii) The use of the generative AI tool in the writing of the paper with the generated content labeled in the text. (iii) Records of the use of the generative AI tool, including records of cross-references between the original prompt words and the generated output, etc. (iv) Whether the AI-generated content (including opinions, data representations, and information, etc.) has been cross-validated for accuracy and authenticity; and if it comes from a third party, whether the third party's permission has been obtained and acknowledged and explained in the article.
- 4. Our journals do not accept submissions that use generative artificial intelligence tools to generate the main structure, core ideas, and main content of an article, rewrite existing research results; fictionalize information about the tool or conceal its use; or falsify or fabricate literature, content, and data.
- 5.Authors should be responsible for the use of generative AI in their papers and bear the legal and ethical responsibility accordinglyThe company reserves the right to track and review the use of generative AI in the submission and publication of manuscripts. We reserve the right to permanently track and review the use of generative artificial intelligence in the submission and publication of manuscripts, and to gradually establish and improve the review mechanism for the academic integrity of contributors and reviewers and the fairness of external review, including but not limited to the use of artificial intelligence to generate a professional content detection system, and the hiring of technical experts to jointly review the external review, and other means. Once it is verified that there are cases of concealing or not truthfully providing the use of generative AI tools, as well as behaviors related to the fourth point above, our company will regard it as a violation of academic integrity, and has the right to take measures such as withdrawing the manuscript, notifying the host organization, and prohibiting the publication of articles in our edited and published journals within 10 years. If any damage is caused to the reputation of the Society, the Society has the right to pursue its legal responsibility.
- 6.Artificial Intelligence and the Development of Historiography to be added to our journalThrough written talks, special topics, and especially case studies, we will explore the new advancement of AI on historical research ideas, data, methods, and other dimensions, and encourage and guide new theories, processes, paradigms, and methods of "human + AI" research that are honest, transparent, and interpretable.
- 7. This specification applies to all publications edited and published by the Journal of Historical Studies, and will be adjusted accordingly to the technological development of generative artificial intelligence.
- 8. These Norms shall come into force on March 1, 2025, and shall be interpreted by the Journal of Historical Research of the Chinese Academy of History.
