April 1, 2010 - Last month ChatGPT The 4o model ushers in a newNative Image Generator, the generator performs well in generating text within images. However, this technological advancement raises new questions. People have started using it to generate fake restaurant receipts, which could add another tool for fraudsters.

Social media user and venture capitalist Dedi Das posted a photo of a fake receipt from a real steakhouse in San Francisco that he claimed to have generated with 4o on the X platform. Subsequently, others managed to replicate a similar result, theSome people even add food or drink stains to make receipts look more realisticOne of the most realistic examples, IT House notes, came from France, where a Collab user posted a crumpled AI-generated receipt from a local restaurant chain.
TechCrunch also tested 4o and managed to generate a fake receipt for an Applebee's in San Francisco. However, there were some glaring breaks in their attempt, such as the use of a comma instead of a period for the total amount, and the numbers didn't add up correctly, but it's easy for a fraudster to quickly change that with photo editing software or a more precise cue word.
Obviously, the ease with which fake receipts can be generated presents a huge opportunity for fraud. It is easy to imagine that this technique could be used by unscrupulous individuals to "reimburse" completely fictitious expenses.
OpenAI spokesperson Téa Christiansen said that all of their images contain metadata that indicates they were generated by ChatGPT. Christiansen also said that OpenAI takes action when users violate the usage policy, and that they are always learning from real-world usage and feedback.
When asked why ChatGPT allows people to generate fake receipts and whether this is consistent with OpenAI's usage policy against fraud, Christiansen responded thatOpenAI's "goal is to give users as much creative freedom as possible."And fake AI receipts can also be used in non-fraudulent scenarios, such as "teaching people financial literacy" and creating original artwork and product advertisements.
