OpenAI CEO Altman posted on social media platform X on April 4 that the o3 and o4-mini could be released in a few weeks and in the coming months GPT-5.

According to Altman, this is to be able to make GPT-5 better than originally envisioned. The team also found that integrating everything smoothly was more difficult than expected, and hopefully there will be enough capacity to support the expected demand.
1AI noted that Altman had released a roadmap in February this year detailing the company's development plans for its GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 artificial intelligence models.
A key goal of OpenAI, says Altman, is "Harmonize o-series models with GPT-series models, by creating systems that can use all of our tools, systems that know when they need to think for long periods of time and when they don't, and can be applied to a wide range of tasks."
He mentioned that the company plans to release GPT-5 as a system that integrates several technologies, including o3 technology. He said at the time, "o3 Will no longer be available as a stand-alone model." The o3 technology was first previewed in December 2024, followed by an o3-mini version in January 2025 by OpenAI.
