May 17, 2011 - Technology media outlet bleepingcomputer released a blog post yesterday (May 16) reporting that OpenAI ChatGPT Integration being tested MCP agreement to extend the AI chatbot's third-party services.

Note: MCP, known as Model Context Protocol, was introduced by Anthropic in November 2024 with the goal of unifying the way Large Language Models (LLMs) interact with external systems.
MCP can be likened to a "USB-C interface" for AI applications, where the AI assistant accesses data through a controlled interface, such as listing tables, reading data, or executing SQL queries to perform tasks such as database exploration and analysis.
While the immediate use of MCP for the average consumer may be limited, it can be disruptive for organizations. Enterprises will be able to connect their internal tools to ChatGPT through MCP, sharing data on demand and optimizing workflows.
According to social media platform X user Tibor, ChatGPT is testing a "Connectors settings" feature.Users can add a new tool by clicking on the "Custom" option and filling in information such as the tool name, URL and description.
This feature allows ChatGPT to work seamlessly with a user's own application or API implementation, and while MCP support is still in internal testing, OpenAI expects to formally announce this feature in the coming days or weeks.
