May 17OpenAI Codex, a software engineering intelligence agent, was released, followed by an online "Q&A" session on Reddit.
When asked about "theGPT-5 In response to the question "What can we do for users in the future?", Jerry Tworek, Vice President of Research at OpenAI, replied, "With GPT-5 as the next-generation base model, the team hopes that users will be able to minimize the need to switch between models".
Jerry also mentioned the AI Agent "Operator" that was released in January of this year. Jerry said that there will be future improvements to Operator that will eventually turn it into an integrated AI tool with Codex, operator's own functionality, Deep Research, and more.
