June 18, 2011 - Foreign media outlet TechCrunch reported today thatMeta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is picking up the pace of hiring, trying to net the newly formed superintelligence team from the OpenAI and top AI researchers at Google DeepMind. Rumor has it that in an effort to lure this talent to join a team led by former Scale AI CEO Alexander Wang, and in close proximity to Zuckerberg himself in terms of office space, Meta offeredCompensation package of up to $100 million (note: approximately RMB 718 million at current exchange rates).
OpenAI CEO Altman confirmed these claims in a podcast episode he co-participated in with his brother Jack Altman, which went live on Tuesday. He pointed out that despite Zuckerberg's high salary, little substantive progress has been made, all the while making snide remarks.

He argued that employees politely rejected Meta because they believed that OpenAI More likely to be generalizedAIHe also pointed out that Meta's culture of hiring people while ignoring its mission may not make it a truly innovative company. He also pointed out that Meta is heavy on recruiting but neglects its mission, a culture that may not breed a truly innovative atmosphere.
Meta reportedly tried to poach OpenAI core researcher Norm Brown, and Google's head of AI architecture, Koraj Kavuksoglu, but failed.
Altman further stated that the key to OpenAI's success is that itAlways InnovateAnd Meta's current AI program isn't living up to expectations. He said there are still aspects of Meta that he respects, but also said bluntly, "I don't think Meta is good at being innovative." He added that if companies want to stay ahead of the AI race, it's not enough to just play catch-up; they have toA real breakthrough.
