The news of September 10thGooglefor its Veo 3 The AI Video Generation Tool adds 1080P resolution and vertical video format support. According to the Google Developer's Blog Bulletin, Veo 3 and the simplified version of the Veo 3 Fast (the latter is faster and cheaper to produce, but with relatively lower video quality) now support the generation of 9:16-scale videos, which are more suitable for display in mobile devices and social media applications。

The blog notes that the developers simply need to set the "aspectRatio" parameter to 9:16 in the API request, so that they can activate the vertical screen video function, which means that this feature is primarily directed at developers who develop applications that support Veo 3 video generation. The update also allowed developers to increase the resolution of the generation of videos from the previous 720 P to 1080 P, but the current 1080 P resolution is reported to support only 16:9。
Google also states that Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast have been given “stabilized status, which can be used through the Gemini API input to scale production” and reduced the cost for developers to use both tools to generate video. Of these, the cost of generating Veo 3 fell from $0.75 per second to $0.40 (note: the current exchange rate is about RMB 2.8) and Veo 3 Fast from $0.40 per second to $0.15 (the current exchange rate is about RMB 1.1)。
Indeed, the launch of the vertical video format support was not surprising, and Google announced in June this year that the "end of the summer" will add Veo 3 to YouTube Shorts. Opening this format to developers means that in the future there may be a large amount of Veo 3-generated content on more vertical video platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels。
