March 25thClaude Code product manager Catherine Wu (@catwu) wrote to X to share her evolution of the role of product manager in the high-speed iterative context of the AI model。
Wu noted that the traditional PM method of work was based on the assumption of "relative stability of bottom technologies", but that in the current environment, where modelling capacity continues to leapfrog, this premise no longer exists. She indicated that, as the frequency and capacity boundaries of the model were changing, product management processes had to be synchronized。
At the practical level, she summarized four principles:
A short-cycle sprint was an alternative to the long-term road map: in her view, it was difficult to compete with small-scale HF experiments in the long term. Claude Code, AskUserQuestion and Todo list functions on Claude Desktop are derived from team in-house thinking and are quickly online after validation through fast prototype construction and internal testing
Replaces the document with Demo and the assessment: The threshold for building a operational prototype with Claude Code and Opus 4.6 has been significantly reduced. Directly presenting interactive product forms is not only faster, but also closer to final experience than the preparation of specifications
Re-examination of the functional list with the release of the new model: she suggested that, after each upgrade of the model, she review the functional scenario that had previously been set aside because of technical constraints and retest its feasibility, while removing the additional scaffolding that had been constructed to compensate for the lack of capacity of the old model
Keep the system simple: She stressed that in the Agenic system, complexity significantly magnifies the risk of failure and that product design should prioritize the search for "the simplest viable solution"。
