In a new paper published by researchers at the University of California and NVIDIA, the NaVILA model was proposed. The core innovation of NaVILA is that instead of relying on maps, robots can navigate autonomously to a given location by simply "listening to and understanding" human commands in natural language, combined with real-time visual imagery and LiDAR information. NaVILA not only gets rid of the dependence on maps, but also further extends the navigation technology from wheeled to legged robots, enabling the robots to have the ability to cross obstacles and adaptive path planning in more complex scenarios.
