MIT Develops New AI Restoration Technology: "Resurrecting" 15th Century Paintings in Three and a Half Hours
June 16, 2011 - A newly developed technology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has given AI a different approach to restoring famous paintings - by using a removable mask (which can be interpreted as an "AI-generated solid layer") that allows for the reversible restoration of the paintings directly on the painting itself. According to a June 11 report in MIT News, the technology was designed by mechanical engineering graduate student Alex Kachkine, who has a passion for restoring paintings in the traditional hand-painted manner.
