IBM's New Optical Technology Reduces GPU Idle Time, Dramatically Speeds AI Model Training
Dec. 11 (Bloomberg) -- IBM has announced the development of a new optical technology that can train AI models at the speed of light while saving significant energy. By applying this breakthrough to data centers, the company says that training one AI model saves as much energy as 5,000 U.S. homes consume in a year. The company explained that while data centers are connected to the outside world through fiber optic cables, copper wires are still used internally. These copper wires are connected to GPU gas pedals, which spend a lot of time idle while waiting for data from other devices...- 2.1k

OpenAI collaborates with third-party organizations to build new AI training datasets
OpenAI recently announced the Data Partnerships program, which aims to work with third-party organizations to create public and private datasets for AI model training. This initiative is designed to address problems with existing AI model training datasets, which contain toxic language and bias. OpenAI's goal is to produce AI that is safer and more beneficial to all humans, and to achieve this they plan to collect "large-scale" datasets that reflect human society, especially those that are currently difficult to access online. The data will cover a variety of formats, including images, audio and video...- 3.3k
