On October 18th, Xinhua reported that yesterday, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, at the World Bank and IMF Annual Meeting in 2025 in Washington, stated that artificial intelligence (AI) was generating “unbelievable optimism” and was expected to contribute to global economic growth from 0.1% to 0.8%. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently stated in a report that it does not recommend imposing special taxes directly on generative AI, but countries need to adjust their tax systems in all aspects to target AI development and strike a balance between AI development and labor protection. The IMF believes that directly imposing special taxes on generative AI to mitigate the impact of this most disruptive "automation tool" on the labor market is not feasible in practice and will also hinder the development of social productivity.
