A few days ago, the well-known AIprogrammingtool Cursor CEO Michael Truell Interviewed on the podcast Lenny's Podcast.
In the interview, Truell put forward the concept of 'post-code era', emphasizing that the future of software development will no longer rely on traditional programming languages, but rather move towards a more abstract and logical expression closer to natural language.
Based on this concept, Truell predicted:"The engineers of the future are no longer grammar memorizers, but people who understand systems and define logic. They are thinking more about 'what to achieve' rather than 'how to achieve'."
At the same time, Truell said that the addition of AI is making programming an expression closer to natural language, and that code will evolve to be as simple as 'writing English'. He further explains that such a shift will increase the likelihood that ordinary people will be involved in software design, as well as making development more efficient and easier to understand.
In addition, Truell emphasized the importance of "taste" when talking about the skills needed by future engineers, i.e., having a clear and sound judgment of "what to build.
He noted that as AI gradually takes over the underlying implementation, developers will no longer need to be meticulous with every detail, but rather master how to define system behavior and user experience.
