Horizon Alpha was released in a low-profile fashion on July 31st, and has achieved excellent results in the EQ-Bench charts, surpassing the Kimi K2 model at the top of the charts, suggesting advanced emotional intelligence and creative writing capabilities, however, its creators have remained anonymous to date, with no technical documentation or parameter information provided.
There is widespread speculation in the AI community that Horizon Alpha could be a secret beta version of OpenAI's GPT-5. In the meantime, OpenAI is accelerating testing of GPT-5, which is expected to be released in August.
