August 25, 2012 - Business Insider 23 reported that former OpenAI Researcher Miles Brundage believes that in the age of AI, the scenario of "getting $10,000 a month (note: the current exchange rate is about 71,744 yuan)" is entirely possible.

Brundage said on X this week that policymakers should have a bolder vision. He wrote: "It would be nice to conduct a UBI experiment that is far more generous than the current scale, such as$10,000 per month instead of $1,000, the effect will be dramatic."
He noted that AI will profoundly change the structure of the economy, which makes this vision feasible in the future. He said, "$1,000 a month is realistic in terms of policy today, and in a few years' time, $10,000 a month will be accompanied by a $100,000 a month. AI-poweredeconomic growthIt will also become a viable option."
Currently, AI development has threatened a number of entry-level jobs. A number of AI industry leaders, including Musk, have actively supported basic income programs, and OpenAI CEO Altman has funded one of the largest basic income studies for participants$1,000 per month for three years.
Brundage stepped down as OpenAI's senior policy advisor and head of the AGI readiness team in 2024. He wrote in a blog post at the time thatAI-induced employment shocksis always his primary concern. "In the short term, I worry that AI will disrupt opportunities for people who desperately need jobs, but at the same time, I think humans should one day be free from the obligation to work for survival, and that in itself is one of the most important reasons to build AI and AGI."
Brundage noted that the system of the day is far from ready for this shift. We are not ready, politically, culturally or otherwise, and this has to be part of the policy discussion," he said. A blind entry into the post-work era could lead to a stagnation of civilization, like the scenario depicted in the film Robotech. That's why we need more thought and debate."
