Runway CEO: Don't go out of your way to become an AI company

Cristóbal Valenzuela, CEO of AI video-generation company Runway, has released an open letter discussing the future of AI companies.Valenzuela argues that the era of the AI company is over, but that's not to say that AI has failed, it's because AI is becoming as much an infrastructure as electricity or the internet. Calling yourself an AI company in 2024 is as outdated as calling yourself an internet company. ai is not an endgame, it is a tool, a foundation to support greater things, and that is Runway's vision: ai is a necessary tool for storytelling. The real innovation is not in the technology itself, but in what it enables: new ways of expressing and telling stories, and new ways of connecting to the human experience.
