Google releases upgraded Gemini 2.5 Pro AI model ahead of I/O 2025 conference

Google on Tuesday announced the release of Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O Edition), an updated version of its flagship Gemini 2.5 Pro AI model, which the company claims to have topped a number of widely used benchmarks. The release of the model coincides with Google's annual I/O developer conference (hence the 'I/O Edition'). Google is expected to unveil a number of models as well as AI-powered tools and platforms at the conference. In this brutal AI race, Google is fiercely competing for market share and user mindshare; competitors such as OpenAI and xAI are about to unveil high-performance models. According to Google, Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O version) "significantly" improves the ability to code and build interactive web applications. The company says the model also performs better on tasks such as code transformations (i.e., modifying a piece of code to achieve a specific goal) and code editing. Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O) is available through the Gemini API, as well as through Google's Vertex AI and AI Studio platforms, and is priced at the same price point as the Gemini 2.5 Pro model that it actually replaces.
