OpenAI has agreed to acquire Windsurf, a leading AI programming tool, for about $3 billion, according to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter, and the deal would be OpenAI's largest acquisition to date. According to reports, the deal has not yet been finalized, and both OpenAI and Windsurf have declined to comment on the deal. Windsurf, formerly known as Exafunction Inc., was recently in talks with investors including Kleiner Perkins and General Catalyst to raise capital at a valuation of $3 billion, according to public information. The company was valued at $1.25 billion in a deal led by General Catalyst last year. If the deal is finalized, OpenAI will be in direct competition with many other AI programming software companies, the report noted.
