This week Byte released an internal email saying that it will disable third-party AI development software, including AI programming tools Cursor and Windsurf, in some batches within, starting June 30th, out of concern for preventing the risk of data leakage. At the same time, Trae, a programming assistant under Byte, will be used as an alternative. After the news was exposed, it immediately caused a hot debate in the circle. According to media reports, Byte's Security and Risk Control Department again released a message internally at 7:00 p.m. that day, apologizing and providing additional explanations about the ban on third-party AI tool notifications. The text said that the background of the email was not clear enough to lead to some misunderstandings, apologized to everyone, and made additional explanations. Byte said that the main reason for issuing this notice is that many employees purchase and use these tools through their personal accounts, and the data is deposited into their personal accounts, which is not in line with the company's data security management norms. In addition, some third-party AI development tools (e.g., Cursor, Windsurf) and some models (e.g., Claude) have not yet been provided in the ZG zone. For the above compliance risks, some targeted governance is planned. For students with actual business needs, as long as the third-party AI development tools comply with laws and regulations; support tenant management and data control, they can still apply and use them after passing the legal and information security assessment.
