Google swoops in to release AI app that runs big models without Wi-Fi, cell phones

On June 3, Google launched an app called Google AI Edge Gallery (Google calls it an "experimental alpha version") that allows users to run AI models on their devices without a Wi-Fi connection. The app, which is currently only available for Android, allows users to use several of Hugging Face's "publicly available AI models". The new AI app allows users to search for publicly available AI models, download them, and run them locally without a Wi-Fi connection. When running these models locally, users can ask the AI to do almost anything they would normally do when connected to Wi-Fi, such as generate images, chat with the AI, browse the web, write code, and ask questions.
