OpenAI today announced a major agreement with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), the central procurement arm of the U.S. government, to make the ChatGPT Enterprise Edition service available to participating federal agencies next year for $1 per federal agency. The partnership comes on the heels of the GSA adding OpenAI, Google and Anthropic to its list of approved AI vendors. Under the list, these companies can offer their services to civilian federal agencies through a federal contracting platform called the Multiple Award Schedule (MAS). Through this platform, government agencies are able to acquire AI tools through pre-negotiated contracts without having to negotiate individually with vendors, greatly simplifying the procurement process. While it's unclear whether other AI companies will follow OpenAI's lead and offer such deep discounts, sources say Anthropic also plans to offer its products to the federal government for as little as $1, Axios reports.
