Samsung Joins NVIDIA AI-RAN Alliance

According to Samsung's official website, Samsung Electronics has announced that it is joining the AI-RAN (Artificial Intelligence Radio Access Network) consortium as a founding member with the goal of driving 6G innovation by combining AI technology and wireless communication technology.
The AI-RAN Alliance, which was officially launched at the recent Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona, aims to combine AI and wireless communication technologies for applications in a variety of fields, creating ecosystems that will ultimately expand the opportunities for new businesses, and conducts research on related technologies through the three working groups that have been established: AI for RAN, AI and RAN, and AI on RAN.
AI for RAN will focus on utilizing techniques from AI/ML (artificial intelligence and machine learning) to improve the spectrum, cost and energy efficiency of RANs. Meanwhile, Samsung Research believes that as AI becomes a natural part of the functionality of 6G systems, future networks will significantly increase capacity and coverage, as well as enable full automation and high energy efficiency.
A total of 11 companies and organizations have joined the consortium, including Samsung, Arm, Ericsson, Microsoft, Nokia, NVIDIA, Softbank and Tohoku University.
