OpenAI’s collaboration with the Chase AI chip is at a financing impasse. It was reported that when OpenAI and the chip designer engaged in a joint development of customized artificial intelligence chips last year, both sides had seen this cooperation as a well-established deal. Several months later, according to an internal memorandum and two insiders involved in the negotiations, the parties are negotiating the first phase of chip production, to be funded by Chase. This phase requires the consumption of 1.3 Giwa data centre capacity at a cost of approximately $18 billion. At this cost, the full project, codenamed “Nexus”, with a total size of 10 giva, cost up to $180 billion for the chip production chain alone and has not been included in the data centre construction and other ancillary expenditures.
