A user on the X platform said they gained access to Voice Mode late Tuesday. The feature is powered by Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 4 model by default, with the support page stating, "Voice Mode makes it easier to use Claude when your hands are busy but your mind is free by letting you communicate with Claude by voice and hear his voice responses. Voice Mode changes the way you interact with Claude by displaying key points on the screen as Claude speaks, and by letting you communicate with Claude by voice and hear his voice responses."
Many AI companies, including OpenAI, now offer voice chat features for their chatbots. All of these features allow users to interact with the bots through voice rather than keyboard input, making conversations more natural and intuitive.
1AI notes that Anthropic's Voice Mode feature is unique in that users can not only discuss documents and images with Claude, but also choose from five different voice options. Users can also switch between text and voice modes at any time, and view conversation notes and summaries at the end of the conversation.
However, there are some limitations to the feature. Voice conversations count against regular usage limits, and Anthropic says most free users can expect to have 20 to 30 conversations. Additionally, only paid Claude subscribers will be able to use the Google Workspace connector, which allows voice mode access to Google calendar appointments and Gmail email (Google Docs integration is limited to Claude Enterprise plans).
