OpenAI CEO: 2026 will be the year of AI's turnaround

A few days ago,OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Interviewed on Bloomberg's The Circuit, where he discusses the OpenAI of Stargate (the Stargate program), where AI is headed in the future, and more.

OpenAI CEO: 2026 will be the year of AI's turnaround

For Stargate, Altman believes he gained insights in areas such as supply chain and arithmetic scale. He said that through Masayoshi Son, CEO of SoftBank Group, he himself truly realized that the computing field is an intricate supply chain that requires the participation of many partners, as well as a huge amount of capital investment.

Interestingly, the moderator touched on the topic of "why Microsoft can't fulfill all of OpenAI's needs." Altman was also smart enough to say thatMicrosoft does give great support to the company, but Stargate's volume is more than any single company can handle. He also emphasized that Microsoft will still provide OpenAI with massive amounts of computing power in the future, and the company is happy with that.

In terms of his vision for AI, Altman has always said that "AI is a new chapter in the history of technology. What he is most excited about is the application of AI to science, which he considers "revolutionary," even though mankind has not yet fully reached the stage of AI science.

Combining Altman's current interview with his June 11th release, The Gentle Singularity, he has the following predictions for the future of AI:

In 2025 we'll see "Agents that actually do cognitive work," but the work that gets done will still be mostly the work we already know how to do;

The year 2026 will be the year we see "systems that produce original insights" and the year AI helps to realize truly new scientific breakthroughs;

2027 may see robots that can perform tasks in the real world;

Everything will be extremely rich by 2030, when we can theoretically realize everything. (Assuming adequate resources and good governance)
