Volkswagen has announced that its Plus Speech voice assistant, based on Cerence technology, is about to go live in the U.S. this week. The feature will be integrated into the 2025 Jetta, Jetta GTI and MY24ID.4 (82kWh battery) models.
This function, called “IDA”, allows for the execution of in-car instructions and answers to questions not related to driving, such as advising restaurants, routing or creating entertainment. While some simple commands will be processed locally, more complex needs will be transferred to Cerence Chat Pro via the Internet and will provide more natural and fluid responses to users using a variety of data sources, including ChatGPT。
Plus Speech availability and cost varies by model year. the ID.4 and ID. Buzz will have 3 years of Plus Speech with AI for free, while the GTI, Golf R, and Tiguan include 1 year of free access. owners of the Jetta, Jetta GLI, and Taos models will need to subscribe to the service through the myVW app. The 2026 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport, on the other hand, will have ChatGPT integration.
For the 2025 model year, Plus Speech with AI costs $11 for an annual subscription, and that price could go up as the free trial period ends, but VW hasn't made any announcements yet.
