Geoffrey Hinton(Jeffrey Hinton) was recently interviewed in an exclusive interview in which he confessed thatAI s rapid development has far exceeded expectations, not only approaching or even surpassing humans in reasoning ability, but also approaching the core boundaries of creativity, emotion, and consciousness.
Hinton said that today's AIs are making fewer and fewer errors in reasoning, memorization, and decision-making, and that models like GPT-4, Gemini, and Claude have far more information than humans do. He mentioned that AI's ability to easily bypass linguistic traps and accurately reason out correct answers is rapidly replacing humans in testing, research and even healthcare.
As to whether AI can have emotions and consciousness, Hinton believes that there is no essential difference. He pointed out that the essence of human emotion is the combination of cognitive response and physiological signals, and although AI cannot sweat or blush, it can show "anger", "anxiety" and other emotions related to failure and learning at the cognitive level.
When asked if AI can be 'unplugged' when it goes out of control, Hinton warned that truly powerful AI may not allow humans to turn it off, and in the future may assert its existence by misleading humans through persuasion, manipulation, or even disguise.
